Joseph Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Bv

Joseph questions…

Is Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) the only explanation for a somewhat fishy odor?

My vagina smells alot like sex and it secrets a fluid, well sometimes its fluid, other times its a stain. When it is a fluid its white an has a consistency like glue. When its a stain, its light brown nearly mustard. I realised that odour started AFTER having (protected) sex with my boyfriend. I am worried that its BV but hoping that its just a random secretion that happens to women sometimes.

Yes I do know i should go to the doctor an check it out but I want some information first before I go.

If you have absolutely only had protected sex, I find it unlikely to be BV, but a yeast infection instead. Eat some yogurt, get a prescription for Diflucan from your primary doctor and see if it clears up. If not then see your gynecologist and have a regular exam and be tested for BV.

Daniel questions…

If Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) isn’t an STD then why is it categorized under STD/STI?

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Bv

admin answers:

You can get BV without having sex, commonly from using soaps etc. To wash with or using tampons and commercial pads, sometimes with no obvious cause, but it is categorised under STD’s because it can be passed back and forth between partners. Men can get BV or at least a bacterial infection, this can then be passed to the woman too, women who are sexually active are also more pron to BV, presumably because of bacteria on/in the man’s penis and differing pH between the woman’s vagina and the man’s semen, lubricant, and/or alkaline pH of women’s lubrication.

Anything is possible, but it is more likely that the treatment has just failed. Options are to try something like Betadine pessaries. These are iodine and act as a vaginal disinfectant rather than an antibiotic, they tend to kill all the organisms present. It is then a excellent thought to use live natural yogurt on tampons to re-introduce the normal vaginal flora, lactobacilli, which are also used to make the yogurt

Daniel Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Natural Treatment

Daniel questions…

is there any type of natural treatment to help prevent bacterial vaginosis?

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Natural Treatment

admin answers:

There are a number of herbs that can help treat vaginitis.

Garlic (Allium sativum). If inserting a gauze-wrapped garlic clove does not appeal to you as a vaginitis treatment, and I can know that it might not, try adding a teaspoon of fresh garlic juice to a few tablespoons of yogurt, then either soak a tampon in it or use it as a douche twice a day while symptoms persist. This treatment may not win any awards in the odor department, but it can be very effective.

There’s a fantastic book out called Garlic: The Science and Therapeutic Application of Allium Sativum and Related Species by Heinrich P. Koch, Ph.D., professor of pharmaceutical chemistry and biopharmaceutics at the University of Vienna, and Larry D. Lawson, Ph.D., a research scientist at an herb company in Utah. Dr. Koch and Dr. Lawson praise the “extraordinary fungicidal activity of fresh-pressed garlic juice and dried garlic.”And they identify allicin as the major compound in garlic that kills Candida albicans, the fungus that causes vaginal yeast infections.

Teatree (Melaleuca, various species). Australian teatree oil has become prominent only in the past few years as an antiseptic, but as word of its considerable healing power has spread, annual production in Australia has increased from 20 tons of oil to more than 140.

Australian chemists have shown that teatree oil is particularly effective against candida. One compound in the oil, terpinen-4-ol, appears to be the key to this herb’s anti-candida action. Studies have shown that creams and douches containing high amounts of this compound have been as effective against yeast infections as the pharmaceutical antifungals nystatin (Mycostatin) and clotrimazole (Gyne-Lotrimin).

For recurrent yeast infections, Soule suggests mixing two to three drops of teatree oil in a tablespoon of yogurt and then soaking a tampon in it. Insert the tampon at night for up to six nights. Just don’t take teatree oil, or any essential oil, internally. They are extremely concentrated, and even small quantities of many of them can be poisonous.

Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum). Cardamom may have twice as much terpinen-4-ol as teatree. You can follow the instructions given for teatree oil, but instead use two to three drops of cardamom oil.

Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis). Goldenseal is a broad-spectrum herbal antibiotic, thanks to two chemical compounds, berberine and hydrastine, that it contains. Several studies show that these compounds help treat trichomonal vaginitis, a type that is caused by an amoeba.

Goldenseal also has some immune-stimulating activity. I often combine it with echinacea, which is immune-stimulating and antibiotic. Both of these herbs are taken orally in the form of teas, tinctures or capsules.

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale). Most cases of vaginitis are caused by infection, but sometimes, particularly in postmenopausal women, vaginal dryness can lead to irritation and inflammation during or after intercourse. My friend Jeanne Rose, California herbalist and author of several excellent herb books, recommends applying a moisturizing lotion or egg white mixed with the contents of a vitamin E capsule and a couple of drops of comfrey tincture just prior to intercourse.

Lavender (Lavandula, various species). Rose suggests essential oils, notably lavender, for treatment of trichomonas and gardnerella vaginitis. She recommends adding a few drops to douches, sitz baths, creams, lotions and tampons. (Remember that essential oils are for external use only.) In addition to lavender, she is partial to teatree oil and occasionally clary sage and German camomile.

She wisely cautions against routine douching; you should douche only for treatment of vaginitis. Regular douching can kill off beneficial microorganisms and leave you open for invasion by the infection-causing variety. In fact, studies show that women who douche regularly are at increased risk for pelvic inflammatory disease.

Yellowdock (Rumex crispus). Rose often recommends using a combination of yellowdock and other herbs for most types of vaginitis. Her formula includes one ounce of yellowdock root, two ounces of echinacea root, one ounce of goldenseal root and one ounce of ginseng root as a tonic for overall health.

You can use a mixture of dried herbs in the listed proportions to make a tea. You could also pulverize them and insert the mixture into empty gelatin capsules, which are available at many natural food stores that sell herbs. Admittedly, this is a lot of work, but women who face recurrent vaginitis are willing to make the extra effort if they find that the treatment works for them. You can try taking two or three capsules a day.

Yellowdock
Also known as curly dock, this herb has deep roots that are split and dried for use in tonics and ointments.

Apple cider vinegar. Here’s an ancient folk remedy, which many physicians also recommend, for several types of vaginitis: Add three cups of apple cider vinegar to a hot bath and soak in the tub for at least 20 minutes, spreading your legs to allow water to flow into the vagina. Rose suggests that vinegar baths and douches help restore normal vaginal acidity. Normal acidity helps banish candida, trichomonas and gardnerella.

return of bacterial vaginosis?

im 19, and ive been battling this infection for a couple years. it just doesnt want to go away. i went to the doctor, got prescribed a vaginal insert antibiotic called metornidazole, it didnt work. i didnt really notice much of a difference. it worked for a small while and it came right back, it wasnt even a month. i figured why go back to the doctor, antibiotics dont work and they dont work for a lot of people. this infection is really hard to get rid of.

i tried an over the counter BV treatment. its called vh essentials bacterial vaginosis treatment. it worked fantastic once i first started using it. smell was completely gone, so was discharge. but now as im finishing the treatment, the smell is coming back and i have no thought why. im worried that every time i get off of it, it will just come right back.

im thinking about buying another box of the over the counter stuff because there are no side effects or anything and it keeps the stink away. but i dont want to be on this stuff forever.

are there any probiotics i can take that are excellent for bv? or any natural remedies? i will go back to the doctor if it gets out of hand but i see it as pointless because theyll just give me the same ancient antibiotic again.

Don’t douche. This will place your natural “excellent” bacteria out of balance. This can lead to a vaginal bacteria infection, or “terrible” bacteria. Because the cause is not known, there is no way to prevent it.

UPDATE: MAYBE YOU’RE WASHING TOO MUCH. THIS COULD BE ABOUT AS TERRIBLE AS DOUCHEING BY THROWING OFF THE BALANCE OF YOUR EXCELLENT BACTERIA. YOUR ‘GIRLFRIEND’ TAKES CARE OF ITSELF (USUALLY.. IN THIS CASE) WHETHER YOU DO ANYTHING OR NOT. TRY JUST LEAVING IT ALONE AND SEE IF THAT CORRECTS THINGS. I WAS USING A FEMININE WASH FOR A SMALL WHILE JUST TO FEEL EXTRA FRESH UNTIL THINGS STARTED GOIN’ SCREWY, GOT SOME WILD ITCH.. I QUIT USING IT AND NOW SHE’S JUST FINE AGAIN. REALLY – JUST USE WATER.. I have bacterial vaginosis and have heard that yoghurt can help?

I have been suffering from bv for the last month and this is my second episode. I have been prescribed antibiotics but i have also heard that yoghurt can help? Is this right and also what kind of yoghurt?

rsz breast Your Questions About What Is Bacterial Vaginosis

admin answers:

Yes, it will restore the Natural pH balance. It needs to be natural LIVE yogurt. Yogurt can be used for both BV and thrush infections.

Make sure you do not douche or use perfumed soap etc. Just wash twice daily with unscented soap and always rinse well. The problem with first line management for BV such as oral or vaginal metronidazole or even intravaginal clindamycin is that >60% of people relapse and BV occurs again very quickly.

Best advise is a Betadine VC Kit 10%. After 14 days it will sterilise the vagina. Then you’d need to try and introduce natural LIVE yoghurt into your vagina with either a tampon or syringe (without the needle!) The key is not the yogurt itself but the bacteria, lactobacillus acidophilus, in the yogurt. This helps the body maintain, or regain, its natural pH level which often alters throughout the menstrual cycle.

How do I cure bacterial vaginosis?

I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me I had bacterial vaginosis and she gave me some cream for it (similar to treatment for yeast infections) The directions werent clear on how long to keep it in there, or how soon it would work. When do I know that its cleared up? For some reason I reckon I should be on antibiotics…will the cream cure it?

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Treatments

admin answers:

The cream is the cure. Once applied, leave it to dissolve. It takes 2 to 3 days to really start working. The prescription mark should indicate how many days the doctor wants you to apply the cream. When you no longer have any discharge, you are cured. Antibiotics are not going to solve this problem because antibiotics kill the excellent bacteria in addition to the terrible and you already have an inbalance in your body. Be sure to eat yogurt (Activia) everyday. It contains multiple types of excellent bacteria to help balance your system.

Normal side effects from Bacterial Vaginosis medication?

I was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis, and just finished my last pill last night from my 7 day treatment. I was on Metronidazole. A few days ago though I noticed a white wetness at the opening of my vagina. It doesn’t have an odor or anything though, it’s just a white wetness. I was wondering if this is just the medicine or the infection flushing itself out, or if this is something else? Anyone else experience this while on Metronidazole?

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Treatments

admin answers:

If it doesn’t look like your normal discharge then its probably yeast. Yeast naturally occurs in the vagina. Typically while you’re healthy the balance of positive healthy bacteria & terrible bacteria that naturally live in your vagina help keep the yeast in check. When you have an infection or more especially after you take a course of antibiotics all this balance gets knocked out of whack. Antibiotics in particular tend to wipe out all of the bacteria in the vagina. With nothing to naturally keep the yeast population under control you wind up with a yeast infection.
If there’s no odor or itching your vagina may right itself on its own. You can help it along by eating yogurt that “contains active cultures” ?that’s what the ingredient list will say. Those active cultures contain some of the healthy bacteria that normally reside in the vagina & the digestive tract. Another way to get these cultures is to take them in tablet form, called acidophilus, found in the herbal supplement aisle at most grocery stores or pharmacies.
?
If there is an odor, itching, the discharge looks like cottage cheese or cauliflower, or if you develop other symptoms try consulting with your doctor over the phone. Yeast infection treatments are available over the counter at most grocery stores and pharmacies. They’re in the tampon aisle with the midol and feminine washes an’ stuff. Yeast infections are simple to self treat, but if you’ve not ever had one before you want to double check with your doctor just to make sure that’s what it really is. Otherwise you waste like $14 only to wind back up in your doctor’s office any way!
Best of luck you!

Bacterial Vaginosis from b/f’s “prostate infection”?

I’ve been sleeping with my boyfriend for 1.5 years. We’re 100% faithful to each other. I’ve never had ANY problems with Bacterial Vaginosis before sleeping with him; was first diagnosed 3 months after we started having sex.

Since sleeping with him 1.5 years ago, I’ve been diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis 5-6 times! Most doctors I’ve seen tell me that it’s not spread through sex with my boyfriend, so he does not need to be treated — only I do… but I’ve gotten it back shortly after being treated (either that or it’s just not going away).

I just saw a different doc today (a male gyno) who told me that at this point, he’s PRETTY SURE my boyfriend is the one passing BV to me. He said he probably has an **infection in his prostate** so every time he ejaculates in me, I get the BV back again. He said he should see a doc before we have sex again and be treated.

But, my boyfriend has NO signs of a prostate infection (looked up the symptoms) and he has been treated with Flagyl pills once (I still got BV shortly after we both stopped our meds).

I would have no problem sending him off to the doctor, but he does not have medical insurance… (and may be told by the doctor that he doesn’t have a prostate infection/doesn’t need to be treated/cannot pass BV to me).

**Has anyone heard of a prostate infection (with or without symptoms) being the likely cause of chronic BV??** I’ve tried Googling, but haven’t found anything.

Thank you!!

rsz breast Your Questions About Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis

admin answers:

I looked it up there was nothing on a prostate infection and BV. Maybe you both should be treated at the same time. Perhaps before he met you he had an STI and didn’t know it and keeps passing it back to you. Even if he doesn’t have insurance he should be seen and screened for STI’s. Then you can eleminate that or treat it if he does. You cannot keep having these infections because it can cause other more serious problems over time. Excellent Luck! Samissa

admin answers:

Kiana – Any woman can get bacterial vaginosis (BV). Some women with BV don’t know they have it because they have no symptoms. Women who have never had sexual intercourse may also be affected by BV, and it is common in pregnant women. Having BV can increase a woman’s susceptibility to other STDs. Pregnant women may deliver premature or low birth-weight babies.
Although BV will sometimes clear up without treatment, all women with symptoms of BV should be treated to avoid complications. Male partners generally do not need to be treated. But, BV may spread between female sex partners.
BV is treatable with antibiotics prescribed by a health care provider. Two different antibiotics are recommended as treatment for BV: metronidazole or clindamycin. Either can be used with non-pregnant or pregnant women, but the recommended dosages differ.

If you have Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) how to know if your uterus is infected?

Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV) yesterday at the emergency room. I also found out I am 6 weeks pregnant. The doctor was not very accurate with my questions and I have my ob/gyn appointment 3 weeks away from now. I am very worried for my unborn baby because I have heard you can get your uterus infected with BV and lose the baby. What are the signs you have your uterus infected? How can you get your uterus infected? Please any advice on what to do and what not to do to prevent it from my uterus getting infected. I have moderate pain on my abdominal area and I am very frightened to lose my baby. Also does sex or masturbation increase the chances of getting your uterus infected? Ex. Tightening your thighs together for a “excellent” sensation? ( I know its weird ) Please help me, Ive started the treatment today but I am worried. Please no rude comments and Thank in an advance icon smile Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Bv

Bacterial vaginosis is a VAGINAL infection and that is where it stays. Your cervix is closed so the infection cannot get up any higher. The baby is enclosed in the amniotic sac so it too is safe. Make sure you take every single antibiotic pill that was prescribed so you can get this cleared up. And, there is no activity that increases the chances of infection other than unprotected sex which can give you all kinds of STD’s. You need to go to WebMd.com and type bacterial vaginosis in the search line and read up on this condition.

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Bv

Just go to your gynecologist and get it checked out. If it is BV, s/he’ll prescribe some antibiotics, either oral or in a cream, and it should finally clear it up. It’s possible, though, that it could be something else. In that case, it is certainly vital to see a doctor so you can figure out the problem.

Mary questions…

Can bacterial vaginosis (BV)be caused by my boyfriend? Does it mean he’s cheating on me?

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis Bv

admin answers:

No, BV is caused by Gardnerella vaginalis (a species of bacteria). It is naturally occuring, but sometimes it goes out of wack. BV is not a STD, but can be exacerbated by sexual penetration (monogamous and otherwise).

If you have BV, do not use vaginal douche.

Get treated appropriately (your doctor will probably treat you with metronidazole). Prolonged BV can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and permanent infertility. It also makes for a smelly vagina, so it’s a excellent thought to get it cured ASAP.

Can Men get Bacterial vaginosis and Why does it keep coming back?

My boyfriend and i have been together for about a year. We both claim to be faithful to one another. But i keep getting BV. When I question my doctor he said I take to many baths and that BV is only found in women. Also I become dry when we have sex and it causes my boyfriend to get this scab on his penis. We both had a STD screening and we both got (-) results. Can someone tell me what’s going on.

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis In Men

admin answers:

BV is basically caused by an organism called Gardnerella vaginitis. It is NOT considered an STD. Your boyfriend isn;t likely to be able to provide the right environment on/in his body for him to get it. Here is a clipping off the net: (BV) is characterized by the overgrowth of certain bacteria in the vagina, including Gardnerella vaginalis, Gardneralla mobiluncus, and Mycoplasma hominis. Bacterial vaginosis is grossly underdiagnosed because many women assume they have a yeast infection and treat symptoms with over-the-counter medications.

Incidence and Prevalence
Bacterial vaginosis accounts for 60% of vulvovaginal infections. Young adult women, particularly those who are sexually active, are most commonly affected.

Causes and Risk Factors

BV is caused by a change in the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina. Lactobacillus, helpful bacteria, metabolizes glycogen to lactic acid in the vagina and maintains normal vaginal pH, which provides a natural defense against unhealthy bacteria proliferation.

When the defense is weakened, other bacteria present in the vagina (e.g., Bacteroides sp, Peptostreptococcus sp, Gardnerella vaginalis, G. Mobiluncus, Mycoplasma hominis) proliferate and cause symptoms. About 50% of women have G. Vaginalis in their vaginal flora but do not develop infection.

Broad-spectrum antibiotics may ruin healthy bacteria, disrupt the vagina’s normal flora, and promote infection. Douching, overused or retained tampons, intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUDs), diaphragms, contraceptive sponges, and products containing nonoxynol-9 may also disrupt the balance.

Bacterial vaginosis also is associated with having multiple sex partners, a new monogamous sexual relationship, and a history of STDs.

Signs and Symptoms

A fishy vaginal odor, itching, and irritation are common signs of BV and may be particularly noticeable after intercourse or menses. It may be accompanied by a smooth, sticky white or gray discharge 4 days to 4 weeks following exposure. Elevated vaginal pH level is also a symptom.

Complications
BV is associated with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), female infertility, tubal (ectopic) pregnancy, premature birth, and low birth weight in infants born to infected mothers.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is usually made by visual observation and by smell. A pelvic examination is performed to determine whether the cervix is producing abnormal secretions and to check for other diseases.

Vaginal fluid may be treated with a 10% solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH), which makes the characteristic odor more pronounced. A sample is usually taken for microscopic examination to confirm the presence of bacteria, and pH levels are checked. Most physicians recommend a full STD screening.

Treatment

Antibiotics such as metronidazole and clindamycin are generally prescribed, as oral (pill) or topical (cream) treatments. When used topically, these medications may cause side effects such as stinging, burning, and irritation. Douching should be avoided.

Sex partners may require treatment if infection recurs.

John Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis In Men

John questions…

Any woman can get Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), but men’re at higher risk of getting it WHY?

Bacterial Vaginosis : (BV) is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria. It is sometimes accompanied by discharge, odor, pain, itching, or burning.

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis In Men

admin answers:

Previously it was thought that BV wouldn’t transmitted to the partners. But changing of human behavior has changed everything.

Any woman can get BV (bacterial vaginosis), but spouses are at higher risk of getting it if : you have a new sex partner or multiple sex partners. You use an intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control. You douche.

Though in BV, Gardnerella and or Mobiluncus morphotypes will be prominent but possibilities of involvement of other bacteria (few or absent Lactobacilli) are there for multiple sex partners. Still, there is no guarantee that transmission will not occur in sex partners [previously we thought that BV wouldn’t transmitted to the partners. But changing of human behavior has changed everything]. Patients should be instructed to avoid sex until they and their sex partners are cured by taking appropriate medication advised by registered doctor (i.e., when therapy has been completed and patient and partner(s) are asymptomatic). BV should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis) which are not caused by bacteria.

It is fact that men consist different genital organs, there are possibilities to transmit BV to men (BV is common in pregnant women and in childbearing age, transmission to her sexual partner is possible). Having trichomoniasis (caused by Trichomonas vaginalis) or BV may increase the chance that an HIV- infected woman passes HIV to her sex partner(s).
BV is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain other bacteria [Treponema pallidum (bacteria) causes syphilis / Neisseria gonorrhoeae (bacteria) causes gonorrhoea / Chlamydia trachomatis (bacteria) causes Chlamydia / Hemophilus ducreyi (bacteria) causes chancroid or other bacteria]. So, in diagnosing BV, it is vital to exclude other serious infections, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Examining the vaginal discharge under the microscope can help distinguish bacterial vaginosis from yeast vaginitis (candidiasis) and trichomonas (a type of sexually transmitted infection). Certain factors have been identified that increase the chances of developing bacterial vaginosis. These include multiple or new sexual partners, vaginal douching, and cigarette smoking. Untreated / inadequate treated BV may cause serious complications, such as increased susceptibility to STI / STD including HIV. Recent research is exploring the link between sexual partner treatment and eradication of recurrent cases of BV.
Source: UNAIDS

Did you know: The genital inflammation cause by trichomoniasis or BV can increase a woman’s susceptibility to HIV infection if she is exposed to the virus. Having trichomoniasis or BV may increase the chance that an HIV-infected woman passes HIV to her sex partner(s). So, men are at higher risk of getting it.
See your doctor straight away for STD testing if you reckon that you might have an STD and be sure to mention that you are worried about an STD if your doctor doesn’t.

How do men get treated for Bacterial Vaginosis?

I know this Bacteria infection comes from females but how do men get treated for it? Thanks for any answers I can’t find this info in anywhere. Its for a project that I’m working on so I really need answers! I place my question under this category because I know this happens a lot to pregnant women & I was wondering how did their partners get treated

rsz breast Your Questions About Bacterial Vaginosis In Men

admin answers:

Well no, a) they don’t have a vagina (vaginosis=bacterial infection of the vagina) and b) the bacteria in vaginosis are really always there, just there was an overgrowth of bacteria in relation to the yeast.

It isn’t an infection caused by sex with their partner but something else going on with the female, somehow the different flora and fauna (flora being bacteria and yeast the fauna) of a woman’s reproductive tract going wonky. It isn’t from some introduced bacterium.

5 months? This really isn’t healthy. You are damaging yourself by not going to a doctor. You could even kill your chances of being able to concieve in the future if it goes on long enough without treatment. Most walk-in clinics can prescribe free antibiotics. Even if you cannot afford it, you need to get treatment. 5 months is terrible.

Lizzie Your Questions About Vaginal Bacterial Infection

Lizzie questions…

Does anyone have any other ways to treat a recurring vaginal bacterial infection?

I have had recurring bacterial infections for what feels like ever. My doctor (I know I need to see a different one) just keeps prescribing medication – which works fine until about 3 days after I’ve stopped. I was wondering if anyone has had any improvement with their BV using alternative methods. I do eat lots of yogurt and also take supplements of acidophilus, I also eat lots of garlic. My doctor also states that my boyfriend can not have bv – I have read that men can – is it right? I also know that its not an STD – I have been tested. It drives me crazy and I would just like to find a way to keep it in check – any info on things that have worked would be fantastic. Has anyone ever tried enzara – its a herb you can buy online that is supposed to help.

rsz breast Your Questions About Vaginal Bacterial Infection

admin answers:

The cause of BV is not fully understood. BV is associated with an imbalance in the bacteria that are normally found in a woman’s vagina. The vagina normally contains mostly “excellent” bacteria, and fewer “harmful” bacteria. BV develops when there is an increase in harmful bacteria.

Not much is known about how women get BV. There are many unanswered questions about the role that harmful bacteria play in causing BV. Any woman can get BV. But, some activities or behaviors can upset the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina and place women at increased risk including:

Having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners,
Douching, and
Using an intrauterine device (IUD) for contraception.

It is not clear what role sexual activity plays in the development of BV. Women do not get BV from toilet seats, bedding, swimming pools, or from touching objects around them. Women that have never had sexual intercourse are rarely affected.

Also:
does your yogurt have active cultures in it? If not then you’re just eating a bunch of yogurt it wont do anything for you if it doesnt have active cultures. Im not sure where you live but personally i drink a Cascade Fresh All Natural drinkable yogurt every morning to help keep my immune system healthy and keep infection away. It has 8 active cultures and comes in many flavors. Im pretty sure men cant have it or carry it for that matter
